Hi guys, this should prove to be interesting as Jane and I are blogging at the same time. You will be able to see if we have different perspectives on our time here in New Zealand. Yes, we did arrive in NZ after a delay. Traveling as many times as we have through airports certainly presents its own challenges, as anyone who travels today knows. At least we are on the part of the trip where we will travel by a private charter--hopes this means that we will avoid airports until we depart from Christchurch for our flight home next Saturday. Yes, Christchurch is open to visitors. Our hotel is functional and the bus company assures us that everything we are scheduled to see is ready to see us. The tourist industry must go on.
I'm sure that Auckland is a beautiful city; however, it has been socked in with heavy rain. We took a ferry out to an island that is listed as one of the top 1,000 places you should go before you die. Well, I was there. I'm sure under the right conditions that it would be breathtaking. I'll use my imagination anyway. Did have a wonderful lunch of NZ lamb and visited a Maritime museum.
What a country. At its widest place it is 190 miles wide (means you are never further away from the beach than 100 miles. It is over 1,300 miles long (made up of 2 islands). Tomorrow morning we depart by bus to visit a Maori cultural center where we will have an opportunity to sing and dance (we all know how well I do that). Then we will have a 90 minute guided walk through their thermal area--understand it smells great. We will also visit a dairy farm where we will have lunch. Not sure that the dairy farm will smell much better.
I'm tired. We had a 2 hour time change coming to here and the wake-up call this morning at 6:15 woke me up (4:15 for our body clocks). I am ready to crawl into bed and see where tomorrow takes us. Hope the rain is gone.
