Kia Ora! We are in New Zealand!

We had a good flight and were able to get through customs after the dirt on my shoes was thoroughly checked out. We are staying in a very nice hotel in downtown Auckland. It has free internet service with extra terminals so Patty and I are able to post simultaneously.
This morning we took a ferry ride to Waihekele Island. It is a lovely place on the recommended "bucket list". We took a bus tour of the island then went to a vineyard for wine tasting and lunch. The spring flowers were out, but the weather was windy and rainy. In the afternoon we were back in Auckland and toured the National Maritime Museum. There were dugout canoes from the Maoris, the native people of New Zealand. The canoes were all of 10" wide, don't know how they got there bodies in them. The winning Americas Cup boat was also on display. We had a light dinner in an Italian Restaurant in a room decorated with pictures of Manhattan, ironic since this is 9/11. The food has been wonderful and abundant, oddly its been mostly Italian. I'm starting to avoid pasta. Tomorrow we travel by bus to Rotorua stopping at a dairy farm, a thermal reserve and a Maori cultural center.
